Dip Nails Tutorial

Dip Nails have become the leading the nail trend over the last few years, although Dip systems have been around for decades. Its grown as at home users  and salons have gained popularity with this artificial nail enhancement. Dip Nails are essentially adhering acrylic powders to the nail and curing to a durable manicure.

How to Apply Dip 

  1.  Apply a thin coat of PH Plus Bonder
  2. Apply a thin layer or Thin or Medium Resin. Wipe away any resin that may have gotten on your client’s skin.
    • Tip: All of our Dip Resins are interchangeable but we recommend using Thin as the Base, Thick as the Top and Medium as the Base or Top.
  3. With the lid still on, shake the Powder jar to fluff up the powder
  4. Create a base layer using Adv Gel Clear Powder to avoid any pigment staining on the Nailbed. Dip the wet nail directly into the freshly fluffed dip powder.
  5. Gently knock or tap the bottom of the finger to let excess powder fall off. Repeat on all Nails. With a fluffy brush, wipe off nails and skin of excess powder.
    • Tip: Insert the nail into the powder at a 45° angle to avoid clumping of powder on the nail
  6. Repeat Steps 2-4 with desired colored powder 2-3 times until you get the coverage you desired.
  7. Once the color has been applied, use a small amount of Harden Fast Dip Activator over the top of the powder.
  8. Buff & File for shape & Length
  9. Apply a thin, smooth layer of Medium or Thick Dip Resin and allow it to air dry without use of the activator. This will take approximately 4-5 minutes to cure with a shiny finish.
    • Optional: Skip the Resin as a Top Coat and use Dual Sealer for a high Shine Finish.
  10. Moisturize hands with Massage Butter and wipe nails down with a lint-free wipe and apply Cuticle Oil for nourishment to the cuticles and nail bed.

 

How to Remove Dip Nails

  1. Using a file or a drill, remove the top layer of the dipped nails. This will increase the effectiveness of the acetone by allowing it to reach deeper into the enhancement.
  2. Place cotton balls saturated in 100% acetone on the nail and wrap with aluminum foil. Remove the wraps after 10-15 minutes.– – OR – –Soak nails in 100% acetone for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Slowly remove the acrylic with the use of a cotton ball soaked in 100% acetone and an orangewood stick if necessary.
  4. Using a file or a light-handed drill, gently go over the natural nail to remove any remaining color.
  5. If there is still color left that looks like staining, it will fade in a few hours. This is most commonly noticed when switching colors from a heavily pigmented dark colored powder to one that is much lighter.

 

How to create Ombre Dip Nails

  1. Prep your Nail with PH Plus Bonder
  2. Apply a thin layer of Thin or Medium Resin. Wipe away any resin that may have gotten on your client’s skin.
    • Tip: Apply all resin in a thin application
  3. With the lid still on, shake the Powder jar to fluff up the powder
  4. Create a base layer using Adv Gel Clear Powder to avoid any pigment staining on the Nailbed. Dip the wet nail directly into the freshly fluffed dip powder.
  5. Gently knock or tap the bottom of the finger to let excess powder fall off. Repeat on all Nails. With a fluffy brush, wipe off nails and skin of excess powder.
  6. Apply Base Resin and apply 1 layer of the base color dip powder. Repeat on all fingers. Remove excess powder from fingers with fluffy brush. Repeat.
  7. Apply Base Resin. Using a larger acrylic brush Dip into secondary powder. Hold brush over tip of the nail and gently tap the end of the bristles letting the powder drop onto the resin from tip to midway through the apex. Repeat process to get Ombre effect. Repeat the process for desired effect.
  8. Apply Harden Fast Dip Activator over the top of the powder. Let dry
  9. Buff & File for shape & Length
